Antonio Guainerio, 1517
Antonio Guainerio (d. 1445) was an Italian physician appointed to a professorship at the university in Pavia in 1412. He is best known for advancing the concept that certain types of aphasia were due to the loss of memory caused by the excessive accumulation of fluid in the posterior ventricle. Highlights of his 1517 work Practica et omnia opera include the medical recipes at the back of the book. They are attributed to Richard Bartlot (d. 1556-57), the first Fellow admitted into the College of Physicians, All Souls College, Oxford.
Assessment
Rebacked hollow spine, large octavo size, title page damaged and dirty. Recommendation: reback with new goatskin, send title page to paper conservator.
