Kalmanovitz Library Building
Visitors are welcome to visit the main floor (3) of the library and enjoy the views and various amenities and resources.
Sometimes, non-UCSF visitors will need access to other floors to attend events or visit departments and services located in these areas, such as the Archives and Special Collections Reading Room, Kanbar Simulation Center, Imaging IT, or the Lange Room.
For the purposes of this policy, non-UCSF visitors are defined as anyone who does not have a UCSF ID badge.
Policy
- Access to floors 1, 2, 4, and 5 is permitted for non-UCSF visitors only when accompanied by a UCSF employee escort.
- Visitors with appointments must have a contact person within that department/service who will meet them and escort them beyond the turnstiles.
- Visitors attending events in the library, including those in the Lange Room or a classroom, must be escorted through the turnstiles and to the event space by an event organizer.
Procedures for UCSF contacts
- Providing visitors with written confirmation of the visit or event (including date, time, and location) is recommended.
- Non-UCSF visitors must be escorted to and from the main level for the duration of their visit by their designated contact, a colleague from the department/service area, or the event organizer.
- Events scheduled to end after the library’s business hours must have adequate staffing to ensure all attendees exit the building and that the main level gates are secured upon departure.
- Event organizers are responsible for assigning someone to monitor exits and confirm that gates are secure, preventing unauthorized entry.
- If an event includes non-UCSF attendees arriving after public hours, two staff members must be provided:
- One stationed at the main entrance.
- One at the internal gates to escort non-UCSF attendees to and from the event space.
- Use of any Library spaces other than the confirmed event space is not permitted after hours.
