The UCSF Library’s Embase subscription has expanded to include Embase Classic, providing researchers with significantly broader historical coverage. Embase is a biomedical and pharmacological research database used for systematic reviews, adverse drug event tracking, and medical device research.
Embase Classic extends Embase’s search coverage by including records from biomedical and pharmacological journals published between 1947 and 1973. These historical records complement Embase’s current indexed coverage and provides researchers with access to millions of additional records across decades of scientific scholarship.
With Embase Classic, researchers can:
- Conduct more comprehensive literature reviews and systematic searches
- Identify foundational and historical research that may not be included in recent indexing
- Trace the long-term development of medical knowledge, treatments, and pharmaceutical research
- Make evidence reviews more complete by searching a wider range of biomedical research sources
Embase, including Embase Classic, is available through the library’s catalog. MyAccess credentials are required for access.
