Patrons with a valid Library Borrower Account agree to the following:
- Borrower accounts are non-transferable
- Borrowers agree to comply with all Library regulations, including keeping track of due dates and ensuring Library has their current contact information
- UCSF affiliates may have up to 20 items on loan
- UC affiliates may have up to 10 items on loan
- All other borrows may have 5 items on loan
Loan Periods
Books
- Circulating books: 90 days
- Most Reserve materials: 2 hours*
- Popular Reading titles: 4 weeks*
* Available to UCSF affiliates and retirees only
Journals
- Circulating journals (published from 1900 and more than 5 years old): 1 week
Renewals and Recalls
Request Renewals:
- Renew items online before due date (UCSF only)
- In person at the Parnassus location
- By telephone at (415) 476-2336
- Renew items from 5 days before the due date through the due date
- Items requested by another borrow cannot be renewed
Recalls
- Items are subject to recall 14 days after the original check-out date
- Items needed for Course Reserves may be recalled immediately
- If recalled materials are not returned promptly borrowing privileges will be suspended
Overdue Materials
- When any borrowed item becomes overdue, borrowing privileges are automatically suspended
- For items more than 30 days overdue, a bill for its replacement will be issued:
- $30.00 or more for unbound journals
- $70.00 or more for most books
- $35.00 or more for Popular Reading items
- An additional $20.00 processing fee will be issued for all of the above
- If the item is returned before a replacement copy is ordered, the $20.00 processing fee will stand but the replacement fee will be canceled
- Borrowing privileges will be restored after return of all late materials and/or payment of all fees
- Outstanding charges may be referred to a collection agency after 30 days, and registration blocks may be applied
