Research Guides are Getting a Refresh

The Library’s Research Guides have been updated with a new look and feel as of February 20, 2024. Research Guides, which you may have heard referred to as “Library Guides” or “LibGuides,” are webpages containing information curated by our staff experts to support our community’s research and learning. These guides cover a variety of topics, subject areas, courses, services, collections, and more.

This refresh not only aligns our guides’ style with the library website, but the new design improves page accessibility. Now UCSF faculty, staff, learners, and community partners will have an easier time navigating Research Guides and connecting with Library experts.

New look and feel

For a more cohesive viewing experience, all Research Guide pages now share the same header, footer, colors, and fonts found at library.ucsf.edu. Other improvements may be less apparent. For example, increasing the type size and using semantic headings structure has made the content more scannable and digestible for both sighted users and those relying on a screen reader.

The redesign of the landing page also benefits from larger font sizes and includes a description of what users can expect from Research Guides. Exploring the content by subject or individual guide titles is easier now and requires fewer clicks than before.

We need your feedback!

It is our aim to make our research guides informative and easy to use. We will be facilitating short and dynamic focus groups to gather feedback on these initial updates as well as future improvements such as integration with our UC Library Search results, possible renaming of Research Guides, and more!

We invite interested Research Guide users to fill out our interest form by 5 p.m. on March 4, 2024.
