We are excited to announce that we have added a new piece of equipment to the Makers Lab! Carvey is a 3D carving machine, also known as a CNC router, that uses a subtractive process to create 3D sculptures and anything you can imagine. Below are two examples of projects created on the Carvey.
Some mediums that Carvey can work with are:
- Machinable circuit board blanks
- Delrin (thermoplastic)
- Expanded PVC (foam sheet)
- Machinable foam
- Machinable wax
- ABS (thermoplastic)
- HDPE (high density thermoplastic)
- Hard and soft woods
- Corian (solid surface countertop material)
Carvey works with Easel software, which is web based and cross platform. You can create an account and start designing for free on the Easel website. See more Carvey resources and the safety manual.
Attending the monthly Carvey pop-up is required prior to using the Carvey. Once you have attended the pop up you can reserve Carvey on the reservation calendar.
