A partner in campus-wide AI literacy
The UCSF Library’s stance on Artificial Intelligence (AI) is values-driven and human-centered. As AI tools become increasingly embedded in everyday research, education, and clinical practice — and as most members of our community will encounter and use them — the library will serve as a trusted guide.
UCSF Library supports key stages of the research lifecycle to help the UCSF community incorporate AI tools into the workflows that support research, teaching, and clinical practice.
Grounded in access, equity, curiosity, and critical thinking, we are building shared literacy about AI’s capabilities, limitations, benefits, and risks to support clear, transparent, and careful engagement with faculty, staff, and learners. Our goal is to support informed decision-making in a rapidly evolving information landscape.
We do this by providing free training, expert consultation, and curated resources that build practical AI skills and thoughtful engagement. After completing introductory AI courses offered across UCSF, students, faculty, and staff can use Library services to deepen their expertise and apply AI tools directly within their workflows. In this way, the Library contributes to campus-wide AI literacy and serves as a bridge between foundational AI education and real-world implementation.
