United States of America v. Philip Morris Incorporated, et al.
PURPOSE
The following litigation resources document the U.S. Department of Justice civil lawsuit against the major tobacco companies under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) statute.
 
The Final Proposed Finding of Facts outlines the Government's case that "substantial evidence establishes that Defendants have engaged and executed -- and continue to engage in and execute -- a massive 50-year scheme to defraud the public."
 
The Final Opinion and Final Judgement and Order summarize the major findings and conclusions of the Court along with the remedies to be undertaken by the tobacco companies including provisions for corrective statements in the media regarding smoking and health, disaggregated marketing data, and internal document disclosure.
