Enclosed are four copies of Report No. RD-582-R, which describes
our first attempt at a prototype filter tipped cigarette with hoped-for
reduced biological activity. At the present time we have concluded
that there is little to be gained from further work with tobacco. As
you knowp the proposals for chemical additives are already being
exan' nod in the Establishment, and Dr. Felton will be writing to
Mr. Laporte to determine whether it is possible to have PCL made from
the different tobaccos. An we accrue information in these two fields
then we will be designing further prototype cigarettes.
