    our apologies for not having replied to your earlier letter - I regret that there appears
    to have been an administrative error.
    Mr Davis and I have discussed your proposals with our colleagues. We were most
    interested in the work of your society and its quarterly journal and in particular your
    Silver Jubilee celebrations.
    However, as I am sure you appreciate, we receive numerous requests for financial
    support for projects all over the world, because of our considerable spread of business
    interests.
    I regret therefore, that we are not able to support the Indo-British Flistorical Society or
    the Indo-British Review on this occasion. I trust that you will be able to find the
