The attached reprint of a talk on Smoking and Health has been approved
in detail by lawyers ar: Public Affairs staff from both Mi I I bark
and 8 & W.
@he intention is that it will be given .vi de circulation throughout
the BAT Group. Copies will be sent to No. I's of SATCo companies
anc they will be invited to use the material as they feel appropriate
to local circumstances. Additional copies will be made available
on request.
Because the paper on Passive Smacking (referred to on Page 18) will
rot be published in the Journal of the Cancer Institute until July,
it is essential that copies of the reprint do not go outside the
BAT Group until it has azoeared. All recipients of tFi-s note and
of similar notes sent to BATCo Directors, Co-ordinators, No. I's
etc., will be advised when the paper is published. At the same
t4me, a Press release will be circulated giving the main positive
f;atures of the epi f!eimi c'agi evidence contained in this pap;r
that non-smckin-, w4ves or" smoking husbands are not at significant
risk - in ccntrast to t.1---- recent findings of Hirayama and Trichopoulos.
