Also attached is a copy of your letter dated 13th May and copies of the letters sent out after C&C VIII. There were two items from C&C IX where specific follow-up action was agreed:- U,TCo, Souza Cruz, BATUS, BATIG, Amatil and Isaac* are due to send reports to you by the end of July recommending action that might be taken to improve the morale of the people working within the Group's tobacco businesses. At the same time Mr. Dennis will also provide a review of work carried out elsewhere to study ways of attracting, retaining and motivating good people within industries which are declining and/or under attack. (b) Internal publication of the Smoking Issues compendium - and the collation of comments by Dr. Thornton before deciding further action. This is due to be discussed by the Tobacco Strategy Review team on 17th July. It was also agreed that there should be an increased exchange of information on the most effective approaches to Governments regarding Tobacco taxation and you may also wish to have this added to the agenda for the meeting an 17 th July.
