NOTES ON AGENDA ITEMS - ITEM M. DEBATE
With reference to Mr. Macadatals letter dated
5th January. the following Notes on the motion for the debate may be
helpful:
1. The debate Is intended to cover three main Issues:
(1) The scope of probable future activities and the
degree of persistence and success of anti.

(U) The probable effects such activities will have

(Lit) The consequent Implications for the Group.
2. The phrase "unattractive Investment" means that the historical

high profitability the tobacco Industry will have deteriorated
to the point where the tobacco business will not be able to
provide a satisfactory contribution to group protits(sad growth)
The phrase should not be interpreted to mean simply that no
future Investment will be justified.
