SECRET C.A.C. VII HAYMAN ISLAND Explanatory Notes on Programme A. Outline of current situation Presentations should provide an up-dated general background covering, for example: 1. Outline of major changes since C.A.C. V1. These will include major acquisitions, disposals and introductions/ innovations, (i.e. current equivalents of Barclay, Thimbles, etc). 2. Major current problem and how they have been or are being solved. No fil2res are required other than those which help to illustrate or clarify a particular point in the presentation. Approximately 20 minutes for each presentation. B. Situation Reports Brief reports, which should include an outline of future development (rather than a detailed summary of future plans). f or the Operating Groups not covered under Items A and P. Approximately 20 minutes each.- E. OECD/ZEC/UN The Chairman will present a situation report and will Indicate the likely future development of Codes of Conduct and similar issues of concern to international co2panies. 7. Competition The subject will cover Tobacco and Carbonless Paper and will Include, where appropriate, indirect or 'substitute- competition. Each presentation will be in 3 parts: 1. Current situation. Who are the major competitors and where are they now? What are their strengths and weaknesses? 2. Future development. 'Where will they go or try to go? How will they build an their strengths and overcome their weaknesses? 3. Policies/action. 'What should we do about it? What resources (money, um products, new people. etc) will we need? Mr. Stewart Lockhart will organise the Tobacco presentation and Mr. -Best will do the same for Carbonless Paper. Messrs. Stewart Lockhart and Beat will, if they wish, Invite and co-ordinate contributions from other delegates in advance and/or an part of the presentation. K. Group 10 Year View The Group 10 Year View paper will have been presented to the Board of B.A.T Industries at the and of June 1982. It will be circulated to all delegates at the Conference, as in previous years. This item Is simply an opportunity for delegates to seek clarification of the content of the paper and to identify the issues arising from it. L. Investment Strategy It is Intended that broad conclusions should be drawn on what sorts of businesses the Group should be in (and possibly not in) in the next 10 and 20 years and in which parts of the world these businesses should be. Strategies to be considered will include those for acquisition and divestommt as well as for investment. P. Summary of Future Plans Would delegates presenting this item please use the common approach a&teed last year for the presentation of figures, in local currency, for their Company as a whole and for Its main constituent businesses - A specluen f ormat is attached f or illustration.
