C.A.C. VII - HAYMAN ISLAND Explanatory Notes on Draft programme A. outline of current situation A change is proposed for this item compared with C. A. C. VI. All that in required for C.A.C. VII is general background covering, for example: 1. Outline of major changes since C.A.C. VI. These will include major acquisitions, disposals and introduction*/ Innovations, (i.e. current equivalents of Barclay. Thimbles, etc). 2. Major current problem and how they have been or are being solved. No figures are required other than those which help to Illustrate or clarify a particular point In the presentation. Approximately 20 minutes for each presentation. 1. Situation Reports Brief situation reports, which will include an outline of future development, for the Operating Groups not covered under Item A. Approximately 20 minutes each. F. Energy Management Reports Brief reports of approximately 10 minutes each for B.A.T. Co, Wiggins Teope and BATUS. C. Competition Competition has on occasion been touched on, but never thoroughly discussed, at previous CAC, S. It is proposed that, for C.A.C. VII, the subject should cover Tobacco and Urbonless Paper and should be presented In 3 parts: 1. Current situation. Who are the major competitors and where are they now? What are their strengths and weaknesses? 2. Future dcvelop@nt. Where will they go, or try to go? How will they build on their strength and overcom their weaknesses? rQ 3. Pollcies/action. What should we do about it? What resources (money, new products, now people, etc.) will we need? 00 C) r%) 03 BAT Industries document for Province of British Columbia 22 April 1999 2 It Ls further proposed that Mr. Stewart Lockhart should organist the Tobacco presentation, which should concentrate an major international companies, and that Mr- Beat should do the &ama for Carbouless Paper, which my be directed rather more geographically, for example, -The Japanese', -The Germans'. In either case, Messrs. Stewart Lockhart and lost would, if they wish, invite and co-ordinate contributions from other delegates in advance and/or as part of the presentation. Comments or further suggestions from delegates on this proposed Item would be particularly welco:me. B. Smoking Issues As for C -A. C. VI, it Is proposed that, say, 3 main items should be selected and that, after discussion, conclusions should be drawn on each. 1. Group 10 Year View The Croup 10 Year View paper will have been presented to the Board of B.A.T Industries at the and of June 1982. It will be circulated to all delegates at the Conference, as La previous years. This item is simply an opportunity for delegates to seek clarification of the content of the paper and to Identify the Issues arising from it. L. Investment Strategy This item will also include strategies for disinvestment and acquisition. It is Intended that broad conclusions should be drawn on what sorts of businesses the Group should be In (and possibly not in) in the Dext 10 and 20 years and In which parts of the world these businesses should be. P. Sumary of Future Place The commm approach to the presentation of figures at C.A.C. VI seemed to work well. The only change proposed for C.A.C. VII Ls that, as no figures will be required for Item A, the figures in the Tuture Plans format should include the year 1981 (the base year) as well as 1982 (estimated. or budget year) and 1986. If this in agreed, revised formats wLU be circulated so as to avoid any misunderstanding. Preseutations should be for about 40 minutes each, LocludIng quiastlons/dIscussion.
