    Dear Jim,
    We recently entered into an agreement with the United States Banknote
    Corporation to explore the possible application of a protein material
    for cigarette filiers. Their source of this material is from the
    hides of calves, and they have applied for a Process Patent in the
    United States and Canada covering its preparation. In this
    connection, enclosed are copies of the following correspondence,
    memoranda, and patents which will fill you in on the background
    information:
    File Memorandum dated September 18;
    Letter dated October 1 from David H. Eberly, Jr., Vice President
    United States Technical Developments Company;
    File Memorandum dated October 30;
    Two letters dated November 7 from Kenneth W. Smith, President,
    United States Banknote Corporation; (re agreement)
    My letter of November 18 to Kenneth W. Smith;

    B4pcause of S.E.C. regulations in the States, I understand that the
    United States Banknote Corporation will have to issue a brief
    release to the effect that they have entered into this agreement
    with us, which is the reason why I called Mr. Hobson. Regardless
    of this however, we would appreciate your keeping this matter
    confidential.
    So far we have only received a small amount of the material but
    expect to receive reasonable quantities in the latter part of
    January. Should you-be interested in examining this material,
    we will be only too pleased to.send you some at that time.

    It is to be noted that no royaltie s, are involved in our agreement
    and that it is their intention to manufacture and sell any finished
    filters that may be developed.
