A, amber of apparently anomalous results for the pH values of acetate
'filters obtaLced during an earlier investigation nugLmtod that time and/ox storace
conditions affected the values. To test this hypothesis the ;H's of acetate filters
were determined &a follows:-
i) from, attached filter rods stared unpacked under ambient conditions
ii) from filters attached to unpacked cigarettes stared under ambient
conditions
iii) from filters attached to packed cigarettes.
The results are shown in the following table:-

It is evident th&t.-
The ch of unattached acetate filters does not Chang* 3i@,Mif'cantly.
The pH of filters from unpaicked cigarettes f&113 rapidly and -rad-jally
returns to its initial value.
The pi: -Of filters from Packed cigarettes falls rapidly ard MaittaL'13
the lower valua @mciutnged for a least 2 months.
