DR. P. HASLAM I discussed this report, briefly, with Dr. Nisbet during his recent visit, since he has done some work in the field. He said that originally the object had been to correlate reducing power with smoke quality, that this had proved abortive and that the main interest now was in biological effects. He maintained that little was known about these and it was not certain whether a high or low reducing power was desirable! He was surprised that I.T.G. bad duplicated work in this field and disagreed with some of the levels indicated in Table XIV. Canada using a similar technique would have rated Burley higher and cigar filler lower than the I.T.G. fiTurgs. If the state of the wicket is an Dr. Nisbet indicates, then I think the subject needs much more fundamental work before it can be used in product development. D. R.
