Four documents have now been printed and circulated with instructions for use by Corporate R&D department: - "The Compendium of Epidemiological Studies". This document has been circulated to CAC companies and Wills Australia only, and is intended only for internal use bv company scientists. "Smoking and Health: the Unresolved Debate". This has been circulated both to CAC and BATCo companies and is being translated by selected companies into other languages for wider use. It is to be used both internally and externally under restricted circumstances i.e. to government ministers, resulatarv authorities or scientific and medical professionals known to the company. - "Environmental Tobacco Smoke: the Science". This document has also been circulated to CAC and BATCo companies and is also being translated for wider use. It is available for much wider internal and external use than "Smoking and Health: the Unresolved Debate". . "Environmental Tobacco Smoke: Improving the Quality of Public Debate". As a result of this strategy document manv, BATCo operating companies have already begun to formulate plans for dealing with the ETS issue. with the help of Corporate R&D. A US firm of lawyers, Covington and Burling, have also produced a version of the document for wider industry use bv non-BAT companies that will hopefully be circulated with the help of in 'lo tab. 2. BATCo operating companies were recently asked for their comments on the three documents that thev have received; from the responses received to date, all companies are intending to make use of the documents, with both employees and existing external contacts. 3. Two more documents are anticipated for printing in early 1990: the first is a review of cigarette smoking and addiction; the second a shortened and simplified version of "Smoking and Health: the Unresolved Debate" which will be appropriate for wider use than the present document. 14. A video entitled "Environmental Tobacco Smoke: BAT's replv" has recently been produced by Corporate R&D and is currently being finalised.
