in any scientific Area re3evant to the objective of the cmpendium, rMely
to highlight scientific papers of sukztarce uiuch do rot ccnfo= to the
simple causal explanation of the association between smoking and certain
diseases. In addition three Areas have been the subject of intense
scientific debate in the last twelve months and bave expanded sections in
the Compendium.
(a) Cenetic predisposition of disease.
(b) The role of viruses as a probable causal agent in certain cancers.
(c) Allegations that the classification of certain chemicals as human
carcinogens, an the basis of ani-I tests, is unscunay '-sed. This
