Cigarette ignition propawky is an important issue in the USA, where Congross-approved legislation requires the National Instinute of Standardization and Technology (NIST) to product a laboratory method for measuring the ignition propensity of ciXtreftes. B&W is participating in work of the US tobacco industry 'Joint Venture Groue which is in direct contact with NIST. B&W is also participating in a CORFESTA Task Force which is developing a scientiftally meaningful ignition propensity method. BAT continues to maintain a high scientific profile in the work of CORESTA and ISO and is involved in a variety of activities leading to standards rela-vant, to the tobacco industry.
