SJ G1-1,-V1+6)D L.C Laporte Esq.t P.O: Box 65061 Montreal 30- Dear Leo, 23 rd September, 19"5. Bell &- Laing certainly are getting their share of publicity. If the publicity is really effective, you may thir2k it desirable to get some further advice on the chance of a patent being granted in Canada. As you will remember, our patents (Canadiaan 671 310; U-S- 3,113,453 and U K 903 372) are process claims. Whether we could eif;ctive'ly argue the product is obvious I do not know. Fortunately, even if Bell & Laing get a patent, we probably have covered the best way of making their product. Rather than attempt to summarise the position myself, I have asked R. & D.E. to produce urgently a Research In-formation Sheet assessing the present state of knowledge of the likely or known effect of the Bell & Laing ci.-arette. Meanwhile if there is further publicity we would like to continue to see it so that we can guess the sort of question you mi7ht like answered. With kind regards, Yours sincerely, J. Green P.S. I am unable to find your letter dated September 3 rd and would be grateful if you would send a further copy. BATCo document for Province of British Columbia 5 November 1999
