Dr. T.A. Smith Bell/Lainit Cistarettes. Dr. V.C. RunecUes Ha r c h 17, 1':'50 0333-06 We were in process of compling a rebuttal to Messrs. Bell, Jones and Laing concerning their Intertek Report Number 3, when we received the letter from Dr. Green and the comments from R. & D.E. on the same subject. These cover veil nearly all the points we were going to Laise, hence little need be added by on at this time. Vhile we recognise that meaningful heating rates can only re-illy be obtained by direct c*asure?aentsp we have recalcilated our our figures based only on the distance moved by the 7CC-*C contour, the heating rates being shown below. Feckinst Densitv rt:.of.Re:tina de C /s c.) 1.0 167 1.3 194 1.4 1V 1.5 153 These results, seem to be more meaningful than both our earlier reported average rates of heating and those fror, direct measurements by L. & r.t., in view of the surprising figure in the latter for the packing density of 1.3. The figures indicate that there, is no relationship between rate of beating and packing density for the cigarettes with the axial channel. TAS/sf cc: Dr. V.C. Runeckles (2) Dr. T.A.
