Paper in British Medical Journal by Doll and Peto, wbich is the 20-year follow-up of the original Doll and Hill investigation of British Doctors. 2. Leading article in BNIJ commenting on the Doll and Peto paper. This publication yesterday attracted considerable attention in television and radio news programmes. As is oftcn the case where publicity is given to the broadcast media, the press today has not given great coverage. There are news itenis in the Financial Times and Daily Telegraph today (clippings attached) and the Times relegated it to their Science Report, but did not make it a news item. We are on the eve of the great Christmas "shut-down" and the impact of the Doll-Peto attack may be attenuated until the publication of the new report from the Royal College of Physicians. This is now expected to occur in the late Spring (April-May) . 3. Dr. I.I.A.H. Russel I futs contributed a Chapter to Volume 3 of "Recent Advances in Alcohol and Drug Problems", recently pub 1 i shed. A photocopv of this, togethor with a critique by Kay Comor of GR & DC is ati-ched. Dr. Thornton has followed this up by a meeting with Dr. Rawbone and his asscount of the discussion is appended. 5. The issue of the BMJ which carried the Doll-Peto paper also contained a short report on.the risks of herbal cigarettes and a copy of this is enclosed.
