Gio Gori opened the meeting by introducing the new Chairman of T.-.-'-, Dr. Fred Bock. Wynder, President of the American 11calth Foundation, reported on the cpidaniological studlies of less hazardous cigarettos, with special emphasis on managerial preventive measures such as low tar. cigarettes. lie stated that non-filter tar is more carcinogenic than the tar collected fran filter cigarettes.. fie also discussed the differemces between r,.u-le and fcmaie smokers, different educational background and races. He briefly mentioned several diseases othcr than cancer and premature death related to tobacco --,)oking. lie discussod the possible identification of less harmfui cigarettes on "tar yield" basis, especially delivering less than 15 mg of tar per cigarette.
