AR-89-10-031 Author: E.D. Massey Tobaccos and Cluarettes WIS 1 Water treated stem samples were milled and maintained in water at 1 00*C for 1 1/2 hours. The sample was then homogenised and cast as a sheet material. The sheet material was then cut and manufactured into cigarettes. QRS 3 Cut rolled stern was treated as for the WTS I sample. WTS 2 The water treated stem sample was treated as for WTS I up to the stage of homogenisation. However, after homogenising the liquid phase was separated from the solids and the liquid discarded. Further amounts of water was then added to the solid material, the sample homogenised cast as a sheet then cut and manufactured into a cigarette. VVTS 4 4 t:i- Water treated stem samples were pre extracted with water which was discarded and the sample then treated as for WTS 2. 00 0 1989 BATUKE. Do not copy or show to unauthorised persons. BATCO document for Province of BritiSh Columbia 28 October 1999 Methodology AsperreportAR-9-Oi-119. Date of testing 28.9.1989. Before sending the condensates to Toxicol Laboratories they were coded as follows: BATUKE R&D Code WTS 1 WTS 2 WTS 4 WTS 3 Toxicol Code Sample 1 Sample 2 89-94 89-100 89-95 89-101 89-97 89-102 89-96 89-103 A 279 A 283 89-98 89-99 The returned Toxicol data Is dated 2.10.1989 and is stored under experiment number B 146. Results The means of the data from duplicate experiments is plotted in Figure 1. Thecondensate from cigarettes A 283 has greater specific activity than that from A 279 and so conforms with the historical ranking of these two products. Over the dose range tested, the condensate from WTS 1 and CRS 3 were of equal specific activity and similar to that from A 279. Samples WTS 2 and WTS 4 were of lower specific activity than WTS 1 and CRS 3. a 1989 BATUKE. Do not copy or show to unaulborised persons.
