Additional Study Space for Students

Additional study space is available when the Library is closed.

The Office of the Registrar has launched a pilot program to provide students after-hours, card-key access to classrooms at Parnassus and Mission Bay. Students can access detailed information in the Office of the Registrar student portal on the "Study List" tab.

Parnassus Campus

Hearst Reading Room: Accessible to students for individual and group study 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • You will need a valid UCSF student ID card to enter after hours. Use the secure entrance, to the left of the main entrance as you face the building.
  • During regular library hours, enter via the Library's main entrance.
  • The UCSF Police Department maintains a small substation inside the Hearst Room, which will enhance security after hours.

Computer lab in S165: Available 24/7.

Classrooms: The following rooms are available to students when classes are not in session:

  • Medical Sciences Building: S-157, S-158, S-159, S-160, S-162, S-163, S-168, S-170, S-171, S-172, S-173, S-174, S-175, S-176, S-178, S-180
  • Nursing Building: N-417, N-423, N-517, N-527, N-617, N-721, N-729 
  • Health Sciences West: HSW-300, HSW-301, HSW-302, HSW-303.

Mission Bay Campus

Mission Bay FAMRI Library: Open Mondays - Thursdays, 9am - 9pm, and Fridays, 9am - 5:30pm.

Computer lab inside the library (CC151): Open to UCSF students whenever the Rutter Center is open. Use your UCSF student ID to open the exterior door.

Genentech Hall 2nd Floor Student Lounge: Open 24/7. UCSF student ID required for access.

Genentech Hall Room N-114: Designated open study hall from 9pm - 6am.  

Genentech Hall Classrooms: Available when classes are not in session. S-201, S-202, S-204, S-261, S-271.
