Faculty Carrels

Procedures
- To reserve a weekly/monthly carrel, visit the Parnassus Service Desk, call (415) 476-2336, fax (415) 476-6244, or email.
- Include your full name, phone number, email address, and dates you would like to reserve in all correspondence.
- Fax and email requests will receive confirmation notices within two working days.
Carrels are available to UCSF faculty with the following appointments:
Academic Senate Members
- Ladder-rank faculty
- In residence faculty
- Professor of Clinical (____)
Non-Senate Faculty
- Clinical Professor (salaried or not)
- Adjunct Professor

Access Policy
- Faculty member must have a current, unblocked Borrower Account.
- Reservations are made on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Daily carrels may not be reserved. Obtain access cards for daily carrels on the day of use.
- Weekly and monthly carrels may be reserved in advance.
To ensure equitable access, the following use limits apply:
- 1 daily carrel use per week.
- 4 weekly carrel uses per six month period (January-June and July-December).
- 1 monthly carrel use per six month period (January-June and July-December).
Access Cards
- Carrels remain locked at all times. Access cards are necessary for entry.
- Pick up access card on the first day of occupancy. Reserved cards will be reassigned if not picked up within 4 days.
- A $10 replacement fee will be charged if the access card is not returned by the time of closing on the last day of the reservation period.
Notes on Use
- Personal items such as laptops and printers may be used in carrels.
- Wireless access and electrical outlets are available in all carrels.
- Books and other library materials left overnight must be properly checked out.
- Do not hang posters, notes or other items on the walls or windows.
- Food and tobacco products are not allowed anywhere in the library.
- Radios are not allowed anywhere in the library.
- Beverages in closed or spill-proof containers are the only consumable allowed in the library.
- Material left in carrels after the last day of occupancy will be removed by Library staff and will be returned to the owner, whenever possible.
