Computing: Classroom Policies
Computing: Classroom Policies
Please follow all Computing Space policies.
1. Scheduling
- Reserve the classroom as early as possible.
- Reservations may be made one year in advance.
- Make a Reservation
2. Orientation
- On-site classroom orientation is required for all first time instructors.
- GOAL: To ensure the instructor(s) understands classroom configuration.
- Orientations must be scheduled, no later than one week before the scheduled class.
3. Installing Software and Data Files
- Only Tech Commons staff may install software or data files.
- Browser plugins and helper applications may be upgraded when necessary.
- For software installations, notify staff no later than one week prior to the class.
- For data files only, provide the files at least 48 hours prior to the class.
- See #7 for more complete installation information.
4. Food and Drink
- Drinks are allowed following UCSF Library Beverage and Food Policy.
5. Scheduling Etiquette
Please be considerate of instructors who are using the classroom before or after you. Start and end your class on time. If discussions run over your scheduled time, move them out of the classroom so the next instructor may set up their class.
6. Class Cancellation
- You must cancel and notify staff as soon as possible.
- UCSF Curriculum programs: cancellations must be made 24 hours prior to the start of class.
- Non-Curricular & Non-UCSF Clients: cancellations must be five(5) working days prior to class.
- Cancellations made with less than the minimum time required will be charged at full price.
7. Special Services
Fees for classroom use cover the classroom facilities as currently equipped. This fee covers one hour of basic set-up and preparation services for every ten hours the classroom is reserved. Should a class require additional set-up time, such as installation of software not available in the classroom, the Library will provide these services for an additional fee of $20.00 per hour. When these services are required for UCSF curriculum instruction, the costs will be covered by Instructional Use of Computing (IUC) funds. Special services for non-curricular use will be charged to departments or clients. The guidelines for these special services are as follows:
-
Installation of software and data sets must be performed by Tech Commons staff. Customers may not install software or data sets on the classroom computers themselves.
-
The Tech Commons staff will not install software that will conflict with the basic configuration in the classrooms, e.g. we will not install a different version of the operating system to accommodate a class. The Tech Commons will not install a different version of software, if doing so will disable the currently installed version. Whenever possible, the Tech Commons is committed to making the latest versions of software available in the classrooms.
-
When requesting software installation, the customer must provide the Library with an adequate number of software licenses to cover the needs of the class, e.g. ten students, eleven licenses which includes the instructor's computer. Software media or download instructions and licenses must be received by the Tech Commons staff four (4) weeks prior to the date of the class in order to guarantee its availability for the scheduled class.
8. Housekeeping
The Tech Commons does not have staff to clean up the classrooms. When a class is finished, instructors are required to: - Turn off projection units.
- Clean whiteboards.
- Remove extra teaching materials.
- Return chairs to proper place at each computer station.
- Report any problems and include description of hardware, software, and facility.
- Turn off lights.
- CLOSE THE DOOR AND MAKE SURE IT LOCKS BEHIND YOU.
