When choosing journals authors should consider pricing and copyright issues as well as impact factors. Where you choose to publish your work matters. The number of readers you reach, your work's resulting impact on knowledge advancement, and the evolution of effective scholarly communication processes are all affected by your publishing choices.

The following resources can help you choose journals based on price, usage, and copyright policy data:

The UC Office of Scholarly Communication provides price, usage and impact factors for over 3,300 top scholarly journals licensed by UC.

Ulrich's Periodicals Directory gives price, publisher, indexing and other information of 23,000 peer-reviewed scholarly journals published worldwide. Includes links to impact factors. (UC access only)

SHERPA provides copyright policy information for journal publishers allowing authors to submit work to archives and repositories.

Some publishers have written policies into their author agreements to address the NIH Policy calling for authors to deposit NIH-funded research articles into PubMed Central.
 
SPARC (Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition) supports and promotes cost-effective, peer-reviewed scholarly publishing initiatives and individual journals such as Organic Letters.
