What is UC Doing?

The Institutional Repository of the University of California
eScholarship is hosted by the California Digital Library. This free, open-access initiative supports the creation, peer review, management, dissemination, and preservation of scholarly materials produced by UC.
-
UC departments, centers, and research units may use the eScholarship Repository to produce pre-publication materials, journals, peer-reviewed series, and other unit documents. The faculty unit is responsible for the review, selection, and deposit of their content, including editorial support for journals and peer-reviewed series.
-
UC authors may deposit copies of their articles published by societies, universities or commercial publishers into eScholarship Postprints. This service allows the general public to freely access previously published peer-reviewed articles authored by UC faculty. The Postprints Repository guarantees permanent access to deposited articles.

Many publishers allow authors to deposit postprints in institutional repositories. Authors can check the SHERPA database to verify individual publisher policies. Copyright agreements may be negotiated with publishers to allow for more flexible rights.
