The Library experienced a system outage at approximately 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 26, which coincided with a fire alarm and evacuation of the Kalmanovitz Library building on Parnassus. The alarm was triggered when a fitting failed on one of the Library computer room air handlers. Refrigerant was dispersed and triggered the smoke detectors and the fire suppression system. In addition, the alarm triggered an emergency shutdown of all the computer systems resulting in the outage.

It was determined to be safe to re-enter the building at approximately 3:00 pm. Library systems were brought back online by 4:20 pm including GALEN systems, computer labs, WebCT, Tobacco Digital Library, and wireless networks. The Library appreciated everyone’s patience during this break in services.
