Art Exhibit: Stitch in Time
At this particular moment in time, artists are subverting, exploring, and extending the traditional use of knitting and stitching techniques. The materials are familiar, but the innovative forms and subject matter challenge assumptions about accepted definitions of art, domesticity, social boundaries, and identity -- all topics of importance in contemporary art and society.
The artists in this exhibition have chosen to use needle and thread or the techniques associated with stitching as their medium almost exclusively in their work. While each of the artists has a different approach and intent, they all are grounded in the fine arts tradition. Artists include Ruth Asawa, Dave Cole, Joy Kampia, Leah Markov-Lindsey, Stephen Sollins, Masako Takahashi, and Francis Trombly. Through November 30, 2007 Main floor, Library hours [back to top] |
