Web-based VPN
New Remote Access Method
[General
Campus ITS has recently released a new remote access option called SSL VPN. SSL VPN is a web-based VPN access method, so instead of having to download the VPN client, users can open a web browser and login to the service. Traditional (client-based) VPN will still continue to work; SSL VPN is simply an alternative.

SSL VPN will work for all library resources except SciFinder Scholar (Chem Abs) and Crossfire (Beilstein and Gmelin), which both require a client to be downloaded, and UpToDate, which does not allow remote access.

To access SSL VPN, users must go to https://vpn.ucsf.edu/ and login using their VPN user ID/password. The same user ID/password is used for SSL VPN and traditional VPN.

For information on accessing non-library resources using SSL VPN, please contact ITS at itscs@its.ucsf.edu or (415) 514-4100, option 2.
