Lists the IDs and accounts needed by UCSF students and personnel in order to check out books, print from Library computers, and use other services.
CAMPUS IDENTIFICATION NUMBER
Students
Your SAA UserID and PIN are codes that uniquely identify you on campus. Issued by the Office of Admissions and Registrar (OAR), they are used to log on to OAR Online Services and your GALEN Account (see below).
Other UCSF Personnel
Your Employee ID number is a unique 9-digit number. You can find your Employee ID number on your pay statement or by contacting your department's payroll unit.
Remote access to full-text online journals, the Library Catalog, the California Digital Library (CDL), and other GALEN resources is available 24 hours per day from home or office. Use your SAA User ID number or Employee ID number to establish access via VPN.
LIBRARY BORROWER ACCOUNT
Borrowing Privileges are based on eligibility for a Library Borrower Account, which is required to borrow materials from the Library.
The account also allows you to use Interlibrary Borrowing service to request journal articles and books that are not owned by the UCSF Library and Document Express, a fee-based document delivery service for journal articles owned by UCSF.
Activate your account with your CWID at the circulation desk located near each library's main entrance.
GALEN ACCOUNT
GALEN Accounts are used for printing at Library computers and for logging in to ILC computers (see below). GALEN Accounts are created automatically for new students in the Schools of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Physical Therapy.
Students: Log on to your GALEN Account with your SAA UserID and PIN number.
- Medical Sciences Building, 513 Parnassus, Room S165

Use your UCSF ID to unlock the computer lab doors when they are locked. Hold your ID card in front of the card reader adjacent to the entry. If you have been issued a new card because your UCSF ID was lost or stolen, only the new card will work with the card readers.
Please contact the UCSF Police for any ID card access related issues at 415-476-2088 or visit UC Police in Millberry Union West, Room G18.
Only UCSF students, faculty, clinical residents and fellows, and library staff have access privileges to S165.
ONLINE COURSE CONTENT
WebCT, maintained by the Center for Instructional Technology, is an online course management system supporting academic programs at UCSF. You need a GALEN Account to log into WebCT.

Copiers are located throughout the Parnassus Campus Library and in the Library at the Community Center. Present your CWID at the Parnassus Library Cashier's Window or the Library at the Community Center to purchase discounted copy cards.
