Fees for Damage to Loaner Laptops
PURPOSE
Common types of damage to loaner laptops and the corresponding fees.
 
 
Users will not be charged for deterioration due to general wear and tear, only for damages incurred from negligence or abuse. Variations to this chart are to be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to fees, a block may be placed on all Library borrowing privileges until the issue is resolved.

Total destruction; laptop arrives back in pieces and is completely inoperable.
Full cost of a replacement machine.*
Failure to return the laptop.

Intentional vandalism including scratching or inking names, words, or pictures on any physical part of the laptop; rearranging the keys on the keyboard; or other malicious damage.

*Approx. $2,500-$3,000 based on current market.
Display hinge broken or inoperable.
$100-$500 based on severity.
Major dents, cracks or scratches that impair operation. Missing or broken keys. Liquid, food, or gum on the keyboard, case, mouse. Other physical damage.
