Faculty Carrels (UCSF only)
PURPOSE
Information about individual study carrels for faculty use.
 
 
Private study carrels are available to UCSF faculty with the following appointments:
Academic Senate Members
Ladder-rank faculty
In Residence faculty
Professor of Clinical [ ____ ]
Non-Senate Faculty
Clinical Professor (salaried and unsalaried)
Adjunct Professor

* Computers available: Two of the daily carrels are equipped with computers which have Microsoft Office, online access, and floppy drives.
 
Reservation Policies
- Carrels may be reserved in advance. To ensure equitable access, the following limitations apply to all carrels during the six-month periods of January-June and July-December:
- 1 daily carrel space per week
- 4 weekly carrel spaces
- 1 monthly carrel space
- Faculty member must have a current and unblocked Library Borrower Account.
- Reservations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Reservation Procedures
- Reservations can be made in person at the Circulation Desk, 3rd floor, or by:

- fax: (415) 476-6244
- Please include your name, phone number, email address and the dates that you would like to reserve a carrel.
- Fax and email requests will receive a confirmation notice within 2 working days, except on holidays and weekends.
Access to Carrels
- Carrels remain locked at all times. Entry is controlled by carrel access cards programmed for designated occupancy periods.
- Carrel access cards may be picked up at the Circulation Desk on the first day of occupancy. If access cards for weekly and monthly carrels are not picked up within 4 days of availability, the carrel will be reassigned.
- All carrel access cards must be returned to the Circulation Desk by closing time on the last day of the reserved period. Carrel access cards that are not returned will be considered lost and the occupant will be charged a $10.00 replacement fee.
Internet Access
- Two of the daily carrels are equipped with computers with internet access.
- Personal laptops may also be used in the carrels. Wireless access is available. An electrical outlet is located in each carrel.
- Please contact Information Services by email or at (415) 476-2337 if you have other questions about internet access.
Use of Carrels
- Personal items such as laptops and printers may be used in carrels. However, the Library is not responsible for the security of any items in the carrels.
- All library materials kept in a carrel for more than one day must be properly checked out at the Circulation Desk.
- Posters, notes, and other items may not be hung on walls or windows.
- Food, tobacco products, and radios are not allowed in the Library. Beverages in closed or spill-proof containers are the only consumable allowed in public areas.
- Material left in carrels after the last day of occupancy may be removed by Library staff and returned to the owner, whenever possible.
