UC-eLinks QuickGuide
UC-eLinks is a service that is available when searching California Digital Library (CDL) and UCSF Library databases such as PubMed@UCSF. Citations retrieved while searching these databases will display the UC-eLinks button button.
 
Click on UC-eLinks to:
You must be on the UCSF computer network or using UCSF remote access to use UC-eLinks. In PubMed@UCSF, change display to "Abstract format" to see the UC-eLinks button.
Options in the UC-eLinks Window
Get It Online From
If the UCSF Library owns an online version of a journal, the UC-eLinks window will display a full text link. Click on the publisher's name to access the article.

You may need to scroll through a list of journal issues to find the desired citation.

On the main page for the article, make sure to view the Full Text version.

Find a Print Copy
Melvyl and UCSF Catalog links
To see if UCSF owns the item, click on Check the UCSF Library Catalog.
To see if another UC campus owns the item, click on Check the UC Libraries Catalog:Melvyl. [more info]
To have a print article scanned and emailed to you, see REQUEST IT below.

To request a journal article not owned by UCSF, click on Request this from another library, or from the campus document delivery service. Fill out the request form. [more info]
To request a journal article owned by the UCSF Library, click on the same Request link. Your article will be emailed to you via Document Express, a fee-based document delivery service. [more info]
Add Citation to a Bibliography
Copy and Paste Citation option
To cite the item in a course reading list or research paper, click on Copy & Paste Citation. Note that citations retrieved from databases other than PubMed@UCSF may be incomplete.
Choose a citation style. Then copy and paste the citation into your document.
Note: The citation appears in plain text. You must format it (italicize, underline, alter capitalization, etc.) to meet the standards of your chosen citation style.

If full text is available for your article, you can copy and paste the persistent link into your document.
To create a direct link in Microsoft Word:
  • - Highlight and copy the URL from the Copy & Paste Citation window.
  • - In your Word document, highlight the text that you wish to hyperlink. (The article title is a common choice.)
  • - In Word, go to the Insert menu and select Hyperlink.
  • - In the Insert Hyperlink window, paste the URL into the Address field. Click OK.
